Crab Restaurants from a SF Native
Pretzel Crisps’ own, Jenny shares her top 3 favorite crab restaurants in San Francisco
I don’t think it’s debatable that the best crab dishes in America are right here in my lovely city, San Francisco. The following are in my opinion the best, and all prepare this native specialty in a unique way that will make any crab enthusiast’s mouth salivate!
4101 Judah St
(between 46th Ave & 47th Ave)
San Francisco, CA 94122
Neighborhood: Outer Sunset
There is no replicating these bad boys, so this restaurant is a must-try. Word on the street is the family that owns this restaurant holds the tasty crab recipe very close to their vests, even the cooks are in the dark. The crabs are pre-seasoned by the family and then passed on to the cooks! A snip-it of the menu and my favorite items:
I had to include a side favorite…THE GARLIC NOODLES! I’ve tried the Garlic Noodles at the restaurants on this list and the Garlic Noodles at Thanh Long is just pure heaven! Just a little advice…DON’T skip the Garlic Noodles. They will change your life.
631 Kearny St
(between Commercial St & Clay St)
San Francisco, CA 94108
They weren’t kidding when they said this was their signature dish! The deep fried batter is to die for! I usually peel the batter off the crab shell and wrap it around the crab like a little sandwich. I mean you can’t waste the batter!
3)PPQ Dungeness Island
2332 Clement St
(between 24th Ave & 25th Ave)
San Francisco, CA 94121
Neighborhood: Outer Richmond
The Peppercorn Crab is the way to go here. The crunchy batter and the perfect blend of spices for this tasty crab is making me drool as we speak. Crunchy batter on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. Don’t forget to add some pieces of battered garlic to your plate also!
